Tata’s family restaurant, located at 32 Center Street in Wallingford been delighting diners with authentic Puerto Rican cuisine for 13 years.
Tata’s recently relocated from their Quinnipiac St location in Wallingford, moving 2 blocks over to Center Street. Owner and chef Efrain Nieves named his restaurant Tata’s after his grandmother. “Everything here is dedicated to her,” says Nieves. “She had every influence on me.” Nieves’ grandmother inspired him to get into the culinary field while he was growing up in his native country of Puerto Rico. “Every time we went to her house, it was always a feast,” says Nieves, adding that many of the restaurant’s dishes are inspired by his grandmother’s recipes. As a tribute to his grandmother, Efrain included a picture of her on the restaurant’s sign.
Efrain moved to the mainland US in 1989 at age 13 and attended the New York Food and Hotel Management School before opening his first restaurant. He brings with him over 20 years of experience in the culinary arts, and it is evident in his mouthwatering and creative dishes.

The restaurant has two seating areas, along with a bar in the center serving up traditional mojitos, margaritas and sangria along with some new twists. You can often find a live band, a dj, dancing and other fun forms of special entertainment at Tata’s.
